100 Top Atlanta Restaurants

I just read Jezebel's picks for the top 100 restaurants in Atlanta. I've eaten at some of them and maybe this will be the year I'll add more of them to my list, as long as they're making some kind of progress toward the green end of the color spectrum. I decided to speak with all of them and see who was doing what for the world outside of our taste buds, which is admittedly a pretty important world in and of itself.
Since Larry and Dayle and I got serious about weighing the sustainability factor into our eating habits a couple of months ago, I've only eaten at one of the restaurants on Jezebel's list - Marlow's Tavern. I am pleased to report (again) that Marlow's is all over it when it comes to good stewardship of the planet. They use compostable take-out trays and include a little something for the vegetarians among us on their menu. I didn't question them about energy conservation or how green their buildings were, because I spoke with them in the early green stages, you might say the "salad days" of my research. Note to self: eat at Marlow's again and ask them about that stuff (tough assignment, he-he).
As for the rest of them, I'll be contacting them and asking about the degree of care they show for our environment and I'll let you know what they say.
So far, here's the scoop. Jezebel's number one pick is Bacchanalia. No surprise there - the restaurant is a long-time Atlanta favorite. I fished around on their web site until I found the number for Mary Reynolds, who handles media relations for the Reynolds group. She wasn't in but Molly politely took my contact info and I hope to hear from Mary when she gets back to her desk. When I do, I'll let you know what she says about the Bacch going green.
