A few kind words

Several of the one hundred or so new words that made it into the latest edition of Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary reflect the world's growing interest in conserving the environment. Words debuting in the new edition include:

Carbon footprint: the negative impact that something (such as a person or business) has on the environment; specifically: the amount of carbon emitted by something during a given period.

Green-collar: of, relating to, or involving actions for protecting the natural environment.

Locavore: one who eats locally grown food whenever possible.

So keep talking up the need for good environmental practices. You're not just creating new words. You're creating a new world.
