Carbon clawprint of chicken

Today at Cagle's annual stockholder's meeting in Atlanta, PETA asked for the poultry producer to begin labeling its meat packages with information on the amount of greenhouse-gas emissions caused by its products. That's a whole new spin on the use of the nutritional labels that help consumers make more fully-informed decisions about their purchases.
And if Cagle sells its chicken at Wal-Mart, the labels are coming in any case. Wal-Mart is about to begin demanding such accountability from all of its suppliers. Despite the flack that Wal-Mart has earned from some of its past decisions, this latest attempt to measure the environmental impact of the items on its shelves, like any initiative that will help us to know the true costs of what we eat, is a step in the right direction.
